- Last week my boss commented that I never had fish manicure - well I did, but if he didn't see it, it did not happen...
I am not sure who is more juvenile - My boss for issuing the challenge, or myself, that can't resist a challenge. :D
When I asked if he wants any particular fish, he said doesn't matter, as long as it matches my scrubs! LOL! I guess my crazy tendency for color of my nails matching color of my scrubs, or vice versa, was noted..
Whatever it is, armed with my inspiration, I headed home and I did this yesterday. It kind of slipped my mind that I don't work today do to statutory holiday...
I just hope they will last till tomorrow... or longer.
Base for this manicure is Essence - Under the sea - and I found name of the polish fitting to the subject.
At first I was entertain the thought of just do some reverse stamping, as he is underestimating my stamping plate collection to a great extent. That somehow seemed like cheating, and I went ahead and freehand with acrylics. I decided to paint different fish for each hand, just because I could.
For my dominant hand I painted decal on my mat, and discovered awesome hack or two in the process:
1. I just used blade to cut decal in half without harming my mat
2. If you are anything like me when it comes to full sized decals, I always have problem when removing them from the mat/stamper. They always seem to stretch and/or fold, and I have hard time controlling the placement of the decal. I tried this recently, and this is what I do - I paint little bit bigger surface on my mat/stamper with regular top coat (fast drying gets too brittle and tends to curl at the edges). After this is truly dried, you can proceed with stamping or painting on it. This is much easier than trying to twist your hand this and that way, and you can always start over if you don't like it without need to redo all of your nails. It is also very usefull for a occasions like this one, where you want to do something freehand for your dominant hand. To remove it from the mat, I just used piece of the masking tape stuck on one end. Do you want to do it on the side or top/bottom of the decal is up to you. This allows for safe handling of the decal, and that part will be cut out anyhow.
I will show you manicures side to side first, then I will just go from there.
On my left hand I painted Schooling Bannerfish, and even though they are both painted with the same hand, I like that one better...
I painted myself into corner, and because I can't paint my nails today, I guess I will have to bake. Tomorrow is my oldest son's 20th birthday. Wow! Happy Birthday Tony!
