These days I am spending little to no money on drugstore polishes - not because they are bad, it is just that I have so many of them, I am running out of room to store them.
That said, I was at the Shoppers Drugmart few weeks ago, and while waiting in the line at the postal kiosk, I spotted this awesome orange polish on the clearance cart. Price was right, and I gave it the try. This was the purchase I regretted few days later...
I wanted to do something different for #7daysofpinkporn, and I wanted to use my brand new orange polish as the base. Thing was, as long as there was some pink, it counted as pink manicure...
I reached for my brand new CND Vinylux - Popsicle Picnic. Great color, and it perfect both for the Summer, as well as for Autumn. It was on the sheer side, so I decided to stamp all over it to cover it up.
I used images from Creative Shop 17 stamping plate.
First I stamped squiggles using Superchic Lacquer - Swoon. This intense pink looked amazing over the orange base.
on middle and ring finger, I stamped the floral pattern using a different shades of pink, and this looked great until I added a top coat... My base reacted with top coat, and right before my eyes, everything was soaking the orange pigment, and becoming orange! Yikes!
In attempt to save something, I added pink dots on the flowers, but they still do not look bubble gum pink. I also did not use the yellow stamping polish - this is the white, just making sure everyone is on the same page here...
I waited until top coat dried so I stamped another layer of squiggles using Hit the Bottle - Bubblegum Bliss, and when I added top coat, staining happened again!
I quickly took photos before all turned orange again.
Right after I took the photos I removed the whole thing, and I was especially glad for the peel off base coat, as I scraped most of this disaster - only to discover that my nails were badly stained! Double Yikes!
On the bright side, this did not sit on my nails longer than 15 minutes, so staining was not deep, and I was able to remove 80% of the stain just by using nail polish remover mixed with rubbing alcohol.
Needless to say, this polish ended up in the garbage, as I really do not need a stainer in my collection.
Why I am still posting this? I am doing it just as an cautionary tale, and to tell you that we all can make mistakes, and some times we pay for them more than we been ready to do so.
I also needed something bright in my feed, and this was all ready to go.
Have a wonderful day.
Cheers!
