I also see the challenges as a way of the personal growth, and getting comfortable within my own skin.
Picture Polish re-instated the monthly challenges, and I am really happy about that. I also can brag that I actually won the last month's challenge (AU $50), and all I had to do was post the photo of the bare nails and answering few questions. I did not post those photos here, and now I feel sorry, as I actually touched the subject that was on my mind lately. It is what it is, and today is the reveal for this month challenge.
Challenge was to pick any of the posted patterns from the IG@patternbank. Then you had to mimic the pattern using 3-5 Picture Polish shades that would match the chosen pattern, and you had to do it freehand! You are also allowed to use black and white for the detailing.
Let me tell you, this was the challenge for sure. Pattern Bank has amazing array of the patterns, and it was the hardest thing to pick one only! With this challenge I was painfully aware how limited is my Picture Polish palette... I tend to shop within my comfort zone, and only one of the polishes I actually own by Picture Polish is out of it... There are the huge gaps in the colors with some colors not even being represented... Yeah, I truly needed to win this contest so I can actually fill all of those gaps... Now, finding the pattern within my limited color options was another challenge. Add to that the degree of the intricacy, and here is another challenge within the challenge.
This was actually my second take on this challenge. Last Monday I painted a pattern, but was rushed kind of affair because I was not sure if I will have enough time to do another one. Needless to say, I did not like it in particular as it was obvious to me that it was rushed, even though I loved the the color scheme.
Eventually, I carved some time yesterday to attempt to mimic the design - different design this time. I might post the first attempt at some other time.
Painting with nail polish is hard - nail polish dries way too fast, so you have little to none time to manipulate it, and it is not forgiving. I am really glad I practiced my freehand this year. This would be much harder without the little bits of confidence I gained in last couple of months.
Pattern that I picked for this manicure really was talking to me. Not really sure why, but I don't think that I used this particular color combo before. I love leaves, and tropical leaves in particular are my favorite. You can tell that I am dreaming about warmer weather, and my choice of the pattern is behind it. Pattern is created by Sheila Zeferino.
I used following Picture Polishes for this challenge: Spell - this was my gorgeous base.
Avocado + Lime Lite were used for the leaves, while Rebelle + Fall for the flowering vine, and I also used Bonkers for the shadows... that is the shade 6, and it is not on the photo, just because I added the Fall in the last moment to make the flowers more like the ones on the inspiration pattern. I will not tell if you don't that I used one shade more than I was allowed... Ooopsie! I also added some high lights and low lights using black and white.
All in all, I really liked outcome of this look. Wish me the luck, as I am sure that there will be many great entries. Looking forward to see what other nail artist picked for their challenge, and how they executed it.
Have a wonderful weekend, and see you tomorrow.
Cheers!
