It seems that I am using every opportunity to tune my freehand skills. Yesterday I was painting with the nail polishes which was not easy, and for this challenge I was using the watercolor technique that is giving me the grief even at my best...
Gen is planning on doing the challenge once a month, and for the month of February, theme was insects! Yeah, I am with you on that one, and this may not be my favorite theme, but I did join in, and you all know how much I like a good challenge.
My freehand needs improvement, and I could go as colorful as they get here, but instead, I decided to go with sepia look. I wanted this to look like an illustration in the old book. I also picked some simplest looking insects. I could go with one, but where is fun there!?!
My first choice was Mosquito - who else would be driven to distraction by insistent buzzing around the ears in the middle of the night? I am pretty sure we all have the similar experiences with the little blood sucker.
Second insect I went with was the lady bug - do I need the explanation here? They are cute, and super useful, especially around my rose bushes. They are also pretty in their little red dresses, and do not make me feel bad about my waist line. LOL!
Stunning green holographic polish is by A England - Dragon. I been eyeing this one for so long, eventually I broke down and got it. Girl needs to find a happiness wherever she can, because for me, happiness is bottle of nail polish. LOL!
As a base for the insects, I used Revlon - Ethereal, white semi sheer polish I recently re-discovered in my stash, and promptly purchased the back up bottle, just in case it gets discontinued.
I distressed the surface with the watercolors, then just painted the insects. Considering that I used this technique for the first time ever, I was really pleased how this ended up. In the same time, I was glad that I picked the more or less monochromatic look for this, and I hope you will like it too.
Have yourself an amazing week.
Cheers!
