I love stamping, but my latest craze is foil. Everyone is doing powders, and I will do more as soon as my orders arrive, but foils are so different, and less messy. Results are always surprisingly amazing.
I wanted to do a fireworks against the dark sky, but did not wanted to use a black base. In my polish stash, I found this perfect little gem I forgot I even have!
First Mate needed just one coat of smooth creamy application for a full opacity, and I did not use a top coat here, it dries in this high gloss finish.
Recently, I purchased Moyra foil polish for stamping FP01 Black. This type of stamping polish comes in white and silver too, but I just wanted a plain, old black. One of the reasons is that at least I can see the image I am placing onto a nail. I figured, it will be covered by the foil after all, color of the stamping polish is irrelevant. This is my second attempt at stamping with foil, and I am still learning. I will soon show you my first try- one that I did as soon as my stamping foil polish arrived.
For today's manicure I picked different fireworks images from WZY-Y10 stamping plate.
I purchased foils from Born Pretty Store, as a multi packs, so I have quite a variety of foils. Incidentally, I have three different gold foils, and I used two of them here. One of them is more yellow gold, while other one has slightly leaning towards orange. Difference was clear before application because they also had different pattern on them, but lines are kind of blurred afterwards. They look almost identical, to my despair. Ah, well, I did learned something too, so I will not use close colors together again...
So, ring and mid finger are having darker foil, while index and thumb had a lighter gold foil.
Trick with those is to press lightly and quickly over the stamped image, for foil to transfer... I held it longer and pressed firmer onto my middle finger and I ended up with whole chunk of the foil covering really fine line work there. Because I could not remove foil that was stuck on my nail, I did next best thing, and just stamped the same image over using a black stamping polish.
In the end, I added some colored rhinestones in red, white and blue for a more colorful display.
One thing you have to remember when using a foil is that you need to use a top coat, otherwise just a sweat and oils on your skin will remove the foil easily off of your nail. Trust me on this one, I did try.
To preserve foil and super shiny finish, you need to use water based top coat, and I did use one by Piggy Paint - Water Based Top Coat. Regular top coat will just cloud the foil, and you will be robbed from all the beauty they can give you.
This one photographed really well, and I had to made really hard decisions on which photos to post. I took about 50 photos, and only 5 of them were slightly blurry... yeah this post would run into a next week if I did not weed the photos, so there are the my picks...
I heard that you could top them with the sticky base coat before top coating them, but I did not try this method, and when I do, I will have a photos to show you a difference, if there is one.
You can also top them with the gel top coat, but I did not try that one either, so when I do, I will gladly let you know how that ended up.
This is all from me for today, and I wishing you an awesome day.
Cheers!
