This will be much clearer after the explanation.
As you know, last month I received a review parcel from Mitty Burns, Australian brand that is tuned to nail art and nail art supplies. Mitty sent me a nice cross section, and I am very excited to share the products with you.
Today, I will showcase few of the items received, so I will start with the Mitty - Dash of Color - transfer foil.
Mitty also sent me Mitty - Foil Cling - foil transfer gel.
These foils can be used over the regular polish using the regular foil glue, but I used it over the gel.
You start with your gel base coat, color coats and instead of the gel top coat, you apply the Mitty - Foil Cling. You cure it, and leave the tacky layer - that layer will help the transfer of the foil pattern. Cut a piece of the foil, slightly bigger than the area of the nail, and press it onto the nail.
Slowly work your way towards the edges using the finger or the silicone tool to help foil adhere and hence transfer to your nail.
I topped it off with no wipe soak off gel top coat.
Well this sounds easy enough... and this was the result of my first try...
My gel color of the choice was white, and you can see where every crease was... This looked so bad and so messy I actually did not want to post this, but then I figured I will use it as a teaching tool, or as a measure of my learning curve.
Now, I am a quick study, even if I have to say so.
Failure does not detour me for long.
I took a day or two break, then I attacked those foils again.
This time, as a base color I used beautiful Mitty - Pink Love soak off gel polish.
Let's just get out of the way that I used foil just a few times prior - never as a full nail application either, and am hardly a champion in foil application... This was my second attempt.
On middle and ring finger I did a full nail application. Results are slightly better than first time around, less creasing, but still not perfect.
Then I decided to stop fighting the natural curve, and decided on partial application. Now that turned out so much better! It really did not matter if I did vertical or horizontal half, foil applied much easier with little to none of the creasing on the edges, which was actually the whole point of the experiment. I was so proud of those two nails! I guess the old adage is true - practice does makes perfect!
To finish the look, I added some black striping tape, as I like the sharp finish. All was topped with no wipe top coat.
In the end, I loved this version. Little imperfections I decided to take in stride, as they actually worked with the design, creating somewhat distressed look that was so appropriate for the ancient tile look this pattern reminded me of.
There is a strong chance of me trying to achieve the perfect transfer, but I thought there was ever so slight improvement second time around. Imagine the improvements third time!
I might try out using those with regular nail polish and foil glue.
Hope you learned something from my mistakes, but in all honesty, you will never improve on anything if you are not ready to deal with errors. We are all just humans.
