Dahlia must be one of my favourite flowers. I love complexity of the flower that just get more pretty as more petals unfold. There are many varieties, and I went with speckled one, like one on the photo in the insert. This photo was taken few years ago.
My husband would plant a new bulbs every year in a special planter in the front of the house. Every year, we would have gorgeous specimens that would be at least five feet tall, with a huge flowers. Hubby would water them and took care of them, as he knew how much I love their blooms, and bloom they would. This year, I planted them for him, and was not even sure if he will be there by the time they bloom. First buds started to open, but it is too hot, and I do not water as much as they would need... as a matter of the fact, my garden is really sad picture at this moment...
For this manicure, I used beautiful Beyond the Nail - Dahlia, on all nails but my ring finger. Dahlia is soft coral holographic polish with a gold shimmer and gold microglitters. Takes two coats for full opacity, and is so elegant. This is one of the polishes you would wear on its own, and that is the reason, why I did an accent nail with this polish.
I have seen wonderful manicures that were done with the foil gel and foils, and what I loved about them was that 3-D look... I do not own such a gel, so I had to improvise. I actually recorded tutorial on how to do this, and you can see it on my Instagram account, @hefersanja.
I guess, I could of used a foil glue, but I did not know how that would work, and I had Moyra Foil Polish For Stamping FP.01 Black that I used for this purpose. It did work, but I used wrong color of the foil... Let me explain. I drew the loose petals, and was pretty happy with the result, but foil I picked was a chocolate brown, and really did not show well- actually it seemed that foil all but disappeared... then to fix it, I added more petals and gold foil - which worked well, but now there was little distinction, and I ended up using the white acrylic paint to do highlights.
I finished it with two coats of Piggy Paint - Water based top coat.
This did not look that bad, but was different than I imagined will be. I have so much more to learn my friends, and with time, I may improve.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Cheers.
