Mitty is owner of Australian exchange that carry her own line of nail products: from nail files, to gel polishes, chrome powders, brushes, and foils, and she was super generous in sending me cross selection to share with all of you.
Trust me, it was really hard pick which product to try first. I already tried few, and can't wait to share all of them with you.
Mitra (Mitty) sent me couple of chrome powders, and I could not wait to try them. I could of just burnish them over the black and call it a day, but when I get new toys, I like to play with them.
This manicure was in a back of my head for a while, but I did not have all the ingredients, but now when I had most of them, I could not resist it.
First item I am sharing with you is red Super Chrome powder named Fire.
Each Super Chrome powder pack comes in a handy pouch that contains 0.5g jar of pigment (each jar has a safety seal) and 2 applicators.
You can apply them over regular polish or over the gel polish.
I received 2 different chrome powders, and I will use the regular polish method with the other one.
With Super Chrome - Fire, I used gel base.
I started with black one step gel, which means that this particular gel does not need soak off gel base coat, or top coat, as it is all included in one. I used Madam Glam - Black is the one.
I am on the look out for the matte soak off gel top coat, so I had to approach this differently.
I wanted to mattify the base color, so my powder would adhere where I want it to adhere, not everywhere. To achieve this, I used fine grit sponge to gently buff off the glossy finish, and I was ready to do a fun design. I freehand mine, but you could stamp the design on and then apply the chrome powder.
I used no-wipe soak off gel top coat to pain the flames on. There was no way that I would do anything but flames with the chrome powder named Fire. After I cured the no-wipe top coat, I rubbed small amount of chrome powder over, and wow! So reflective.
I finished this by covering only the flames with no-wipe top coat.
If you thought that my playing ended here, you are wrong. Chrome powder can be a messy, and some days you may not want to deal with all the steps I took and described to you.
You can achieve similar, and much easier look by mixing small amount of chrome powder with the drop or two of no-wipe top coat, then you can apply it over the whole nail, or in the freehand design like I did.
Finish is slightly different in that case.
You can see that compared to the index finger on second photo, it does not look like a chrome, it looks like it is 'grainier' than when rubbed in. Reason behind is that when you rub the powder you actually applying a single layer of the powder, and molecules are so close, that when they reflect the light, they look like a solid, while when you mix it with the top coat, there will be a molecules of the top coat in between, so it reads more like a shimmer.
I hope that this explanation made sense to you, as much as it makes sense in my head.
I love the both versions, and thumb did look much brighter than the rest of the nails. It is always nice to know that there are the different options. This works with both - regular and gel polish.
I love flames, and this time of the year this manicure can look like a flames of hell... in reality, I was just channeling my inner biker girl. She does not come out often to play
Have yourself a wonderful weekend.
Cheers!
